I am a soup-lover. I believe that hearty soup can heal both body and soul. Whenever I feel chilliness either in my heart or body, or even both, I run into the kitchen. It's time to make hearty soup at home!
Chicken and celery soup. One thing which remains mystery to me is why some people hate celery.
Cream soup with Shimeji mushroom and short pasta.
Korean Tofu-Jigae soup. Hot and spicy!
Japanese Tonjiru (pork and vegies miso soup). A day is never completed without a bowl of Miso soup in Japan.
Lentil tomato soup. I'm fond of any kind of beans!
Salmon cream soup.
I used to live in Indonesia, so this Soto ayam (spicy chicken soup) brings me sort of nostalgia.
Soup HEALS, indeed!
Part of the secret of success in life is to eat what you like and let the food fight it out inside. (Mark Twain)
Not sure how many of you girls have heard of "Anko (Sweet red bean paste)" before. Japanese people DO love Anko (of course there's a certain exception). Although store-bought Anko is convenient and easy to get everywhere, it's not that difficult to make original sweet red bean paste at home.
1. Soak the red beans in generous amount of water overnight.
2. Boil them for a minute and discard the water.
3. Cook them gently with newly filled water until the red beans become tender. Add sugar in your preference.
OK. That's not too complicated step, right? With this homemade Anko, I baked the "Anko rolls," inspired by popular cinnamon rolls (Oh yeah, I'm a huge fan of cinnamon roll!). Since I couldn't help but put plenty of cinnamon whenever I bake sweets, these Anko rolls were fated to be added tons of cinnamon too.
And....Voila! Here you go. Believe me, sweet red bean paste goes quite well with cinnamon spice!
I love carrots. I nearly never get tired of eating carrots. You might call me Centaurus in that sense (not sure he loved carrots as much as I do, though). I am a sagittarian so it is possible to somehow be influenced by Centaurus or horse or whatever...
Anyway I made carrot bagels. I imagined the result would be much more "carrot-ish" color. Once I ate, it's definitely "carrot-ish" taste. The tip to make this bagel is to microwave grated carrots before adding to dough ingredients to avoid any extra moisture.
